WISC-V

Another piece of the puzzle.

The WISC-V does not merely measure IQ — it reveals how a child’s brain functions across five critical cognitive domains that shape overall performance.

1. Verbal Comprehension

When thoughts come alive!

How does the child process, understand, and express language?
This domain evaluates verbal reasoning, vocabulary, and the ability to explain and articulate ideas through words.

2. Visual–Spatial Ability

From the “big picture” to the details!

Assesses the ability to perceive spatial relationships, analyze, and reconstruct visual patterns.
Closely linked to skills in geometry, drawing, and hands-on, practical tasks.

3. Fluid Reasoning

Every problem has its solution!

Highlights the capacity for abstract thinking and logical problem-solving without reliance on prior knowledge or external assistance.
A key indicator of giftedness or potential cognitive challenges.

4. Working Memory

Experiences leave a trace!

How much information can a child hold and manipulate at the same time?
This domain is associated with concentration, following instructions, and understanding complex concepts.

5. Processing Speed

Hare or tortoise?

How quickly can a child process simple information accurately?
What level of cognitive effort is involved?

Processing speed relates to efficiency, learning pace, and productivity.
Reduced speed does not imply lower intelligence — it may instead indicate performance anxiety or a reflective cognitive style.
